TO THE AVONDALE CHURCH OF CHRIST

The church of Christ is the body of baptized believers that have been obedient to the calls and commands of Jesus Christ through the gospel. The church of Christ is neither denominational nor non-denominational but rather the church of Christ is un-denominational. We wear the spiritual designation “church of Christ” (Romans 16:16) because Christ purchased the church with His blood (Acts 20:28), He is the bridegroom of the church (Ephesians 5:25), He is the builder of the church (Matthew 16:18), He is the head of the church (Colossians 1:18), and the church is His body (Ephesians 1:22-23). There is only one body (Ephesians 4:4); therefore, there is only one church.

The church of Christ seeks to worship God in spirit and in truth. Our worship is simple and spiritual, rather than ritualistic (John 4:24). It consists not of elaborate ceremonies and pageantry, but of Bible study (Acts 2:42), congregational singing without the accompaniment of instruments (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16), prayer (Acts 2:42), partaking of the Lord’s supper (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26), and contributing of our means as we have been prospered (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). These acts of worship are done on the Lord's Day – the first day of the week (Acts 20:7).

If you would like to know more about the Bible, please refer to the “contact us” section of the website. You may call, email, or submit questions from that section. If you are interested in Bible studies, please contact us and request a personal Bible study or correspondence course material.

WHAT MUST ONE DO TO BE SAVED

Salvation is obtained by being obedient to the gospel of Christ (2 Thess. 1:7-9). The gospel of Christ is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-4). How does one obey the gospel? God’s commands for obeying the gospel are as follows:

  1. Hear the gospel of Christ (Hebrews 11:6; Romans 10:17)
  2. Believe the gospel of Christ (John 8:24; Acts 16:31)
  3. Repent of all sins (Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30)
  4. Confess Christ as the Son of God (Matthew 10:32-33; Romans 10:9-10)
  5. Be baptized (fully immersed) for the remission of sins (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38; 22:16; Galatians 3:26-27; 1 Peter 3:21).
  6. Remain faithful (obedient) even to the point of death (Revelation 2:10).

One is not saved by any one of these acts alone, but together, they all complete God’s plan of salvation, then the Lord will add you to His glorious church, the church of Christ (Acts 2:47).
